This painting was a mentor of mine. I wanted to paint it for them to enjoy their retirement. The painting is a pig relaxing on the beach side next to a campfire. The fire is to represent their undying energy. The book under the hand of the pig reads the invisible hand, representing their career as a professor of economics. At the top right of the painting there are roses. This is meant to signify the rose of the UK, which is the national flower of the United Kingdom. There are several rose buds, which are meant to represent the growth of their family back in the UK. From the rose there is the indigenous Australian symbol for journey, with the various dotted lines going from the rose ending with the pig. It symbolises their great journey from the UK to Australia’s shores. It passes the wattle, which is Australia’s national flower. The wattle has got 24 buds, which numerology 2+4 = 6, which according to Chinese numerology means wealth.
