About me
I am a tutor in various universities, however, I have always had an interest in writing, doing something for sustainability, social justice and painting since about 2018. Our business started during the 2020 and 2021 Covid-19 pandemic. I started painting for others who were doing it tough. However, I realised that the wood I was using was not in keeping with the sustainable world that I wanted to help create. Therefore, I started restoring furniture from op shops. However, then people started to say to me that they did not have the room for painted and restored furniture. So I started driving around Melbourne picking up pots that people did not want and turning them into works of art.
The reason why I like restoring pots and painting them with dots that eventually make a picture is that I hope it reminds people that something or someone might not look attractive, but given some investment they can be made beautiful. So do not throw away people and things just because they are old. Furthermore, each and everyone of us might be one dot, however, together (with many dots) we make a pretty picture. These are a values that I wish to advocate with my business. Therefore, I also aim to have my pots and art to useful in your daily lives either as a stationery holder, growing your own food or plants, while lighting up your homes!
We also use aluminum tubes of paint so we cut them up and wash them then put them into recycling. We then discovered paper, old clothes and small plastic bags were useful and stick pieces of waste wood together to form a canvas to paint on with resin later on.
Another thing that we wish to do at Soh and Soh Artwork is that we want to ensure that our art does not take up too much of your space and can purchase our designs on consumer goods. If you want our designs on everyday consumer products perhaps you would also see our designs at www.redbubble.com/people/SohandSoh1982 or the product catalogue on this website!
Eventually, we aim to be a social enterprise to donate large amounts of money to charitable causes.
