I painted this for someone who I thought was very studious and conscientious. The main features of the painting are the snake in the middle. The snake is holding a golden lamp, which is lighting up the world in darkness. Hence the dark blue background and the yellow foreground. It is holding it over the book, which has the words “I keep learning on it”. These words were chosen to show the owner’s commitment to education and self improvement. To the right of the painting there is an Australian wattle, it has 17 buds. Which means wealth according to Chinese numerology, because 1+7 = 8. The wattle is also supposed to look like the shape of a flame, to signify inner determination. To the left of the painting, there is a Chinese peony rose and so it means with the Australian wattle the owner belongs to both countries.
