The meaning behind “The golden snake being blessed by the fairy”
On the right of the painting is a fairy wearing Indonesian dress, represented through her headdress, golden arm bangles, and golden ears, which signify wisdom in Hindu mythology.
On the left is a golden snake. The person this artwork was painted for was born in 2001, the Year of the Metal, or Golden, Snake in Chinese astrology. The fairy blesses the snake, representing the hope that the subject will also be blessed.
The snake travels along a multicoloured path. Drawing on Indigenous Australian journey symbolism, the path represents how far the subject has come in life.
At the top of the painting, the sun rises, representing the subject’s own rise and a promising future.
