On the right of the painting, a monkey places a queen on a chessboard. This has a double meaning. The person this artwork was painted for was born in the Year of the Water Monkey, while placing the chess piece represents a great sense of strategy.
Above the chessboard are three tulips, the national flower of Türkiye, representing Turkish heritage. In Chinese symbolism, the number three represents life, holiness, respect, and elegance.
There is also a curled wattle bloom with 26 blossoms. Two plus six equals eight, which represents luck and prosperity in Chinese numerology. Wattle is Australia’s national flower and represents belonging to the country.
A multicoloured path leads towards a rising sun, drawing on Indigenous Australian path symbolism to represent rising opportunities in the future.
