This was a painting for a married couple and family friend. To the left of the painting there is a friendly ox and dog nearly cheek to cheek with each other. I have used both your Chinese astrological signs to suggest that they have been lifelong partners standing side by side with each other. To the right of the painting, there is an orthodox Christian candle stand. However, there are nine candles burning in it. Nine in Chinese numerology means longevity, good luck and happiness. It signifies the wish that the owner’s life will be blessed. It is surrounded by hibiscuses, which is the national flower of Malaysia. Then there is the wattle, which is Australia’s national flower, representing the country. It has 14 buds, which represents enough in Chinese numerology as 1+4 = 5.
