I drew this painting for an aunt of mine, our family was from a poor country town in Malaysia and yet we were able to join the middle class from our efforts. One of those family members was my aunt. She was born in the year of the water dragon, which is 1952. In this case the water dragon is breaking through the surface of the water, which is meant to signify the breaking of gender barriers and social struggle. Water lotuses mean honesty, goodness and beauty for Chinese people. The blooming lotuses are to signify achievements already gained and the buds are meant to signify achievements to be gained in the future. Overall, there are 18 anthers, so 1+8 = 9, which means happiness, longevity, and good luck for Chinese numerology.
