The meaning behind “Breaking through the surface of a lotus pond”
This manufactured product carries the imagery of the original Soh and Soh Art painting, “Breaking through the surface of a lotus pond.” It is not made from reclaimed materials. Created for the artist’s aunt, whose family moved from a poor Malaysian country town into the middle class through their efforts. The water dragon breaking the surface represents breaking gender barriers and social struggle. Water lotuses mean honesty, goodness, and beauty; blooming flowers signify achievements already gained, while buds signify achievements still to come. The painting has 18 anthers; in Chinese numerology, 1 + 8 = 9, associated with happiness, longevity, and good luck.
